What a week

It's been a rough couple of months. All through January we caught colds. Each of us. One at a time that spanned the entire month. Then in February you read about how the kids caught the flu and various infections. When we headed to Arizona we thought we'd made it through all the sickness and then this happened...
Poor little sick Addie. It started with a runny nose that led to another eye infection that led to coughing and congestion to wheezing & shortness of breath. I took her into the pediatrician last Tuesday, she was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis and we started neb treatments. Every 4 hours day and night. On Thursday morning I took her back to the doc for a check up and discovered that she wasn't getting enough oxygen and was working too hard to breath so we were sent to the hospital.  She was diagnosed with RSV.
This is what I called her "ET" toe. It was her oxygen monitor.
We spent 2 nights in the hospital and by the time we were sent home she was doing this...
Why is standing up in her cage/crib a big deal? It was the first time she's ever stood up on her own. Apparently she wanted out. :) Look how pleased she is with herself.
She was definitely ready (as were her parents) to break out of there!

We were able to leave the hospital on Saturday afternoon but she still needed oxygen since she wasn't able to hold her levels up high enough on her own. It's now Monday night and we've been to the doctor again this morning. We were hoping to hear she could be done with the oxygen, but no such luck yet. She still needs it for now, but we are again hopeful for our appointment on Thursday that she'll be able to hold her levels up on her own. She's definitely acting a lot better. Wanting to eat baby food again (not just nurse) and crawling and pulling up on things all over the house. We are definitely anxious for our sweet baby to be completely better again, but are so grateful it didn't turn into something worse.

Of course amidst all of this I chose last week to potty train Jack. Am I a sadist? No, just stupid. ;)
(Yes I blurred out his peeper to protect the innocent.)
Honestly we started on Sunday and I didn't realize how sick Addie was until Tuesday and by then we were already in too deep into the potty training. So we stuck it out and I have to say I am SO proud of how well Jack did. He definitely got the pantless training down pretty quickly. It was when I put underwear on him that he'd wet his pants. But by Thursday morning when we had to go to the doctor's office I put a pull up on him and told him to tell me when he needed to go potty (thinking he for sure won't but who cares I'll deal with it when Addie is better) and you know what...he did! And he has been telling me (and the kind, wonderful, dear friends who've been watching him for me) ever since. Not a single accident. Including night time. I really can't believe it. It was just the sort of win I needed last week. A sweet blessing for sure.

One funny thing Jack said while potty training. I was reminding him to point his peepers downward so that he didn't spray me and he stopped me and said, "No Mom, not peepers. It's Mr. Peepers." Got it.

Things I'm grateful for this past week:
- modern medicine
- a loving husband
- an understanding boss who let Jeff leave work to be with his family
- insurance & an HSA account
- an incredibly sweet tempered baby girl
- a patient 2 year old
- an amazing ward family who have provided meals, phone calls, prayers & tending
- family & friend support
- a loving Heavenly Father

She is still on oxygen? Oh man, what a tough little girl! The end is in sight... the end is in sight... I bet you are SO READY! What a happy St. P's day it will be for you guys. How your celebrations change from year to year. :) Another sign of the 30s???

That standing up picture: so cute, so proud. She did what it took to prove to everyone she is feeling better! Go Addie!

And that Jack picture: oh my gosh. This may be my favorite Jack picture ever. EVERYthing about it is just so hilarious: the finger point, the glasses, the buzz top, the look on his face, the nakey. Oh! Love!

We need to pass a law that it's illegal for best friends to exchange baby in hospital pics within 24 hours. Who can we see about this... Seriously.

Also you and I need a mom/nurse/potty trainer party. Double seriously. What say ye?

Whew! That first picture is heartbreaking--she looks SO sick. I'm glad you are looking backwards on that week. What a nasty one. :) We love you. And hilarious Jack. I am EXTREMELY jealous that you've got that guy potty-trained. I just can't get my oomph up to start that battle in earnest.

Holy crap! Poor Addie! And of course poor mommy!

Are you serious about Jack?! You need to come train Ollie for me. Pretty please? Does he really wear underwear at night? Liam is still in pull ups at night and he's 5!

It is the sickest year ever. I'm so sorry to hear about Addie. I can't imagine anything worse than a baby who doesn't understand at the hospital. Also my Sam appreciated the Buzz picture- he's a fan, and even recognized this half dressed Jack as Buzz.

Ughh!!! Wendy told me about this. I'm so sorry. It's the WORST seeing your baby in the hospital. So stressful! I'm glad she's okay, but sorry you all had to go through that.

Love the picture of Jack!!
